Between paranoia of how the public will perceive them, and distrust of the media, Western militaries have long been too coy with the dirty work they do. Even during Peacekeeping operations, sanitized video of smiling happy-joy-joy troops was the norm anytime video surfaced. The truth of the matter is that Peacekeeping was not all a walk-in-the-park, as the surprisingly high number of PTSD cases attested to. One can only handle seeing so many civilians killed… while standing helplessly by behind some arbitrary line that a faceless UN diplomat in Belgium drew.
The new trend in soldier made video is a refreshing change, as soldiers take pride in their work and take pride in the deadly arts of combat. Yes… that’s right “progressives”… they take pride in the deadly arts of combat. What did you think? That soldiers shouldn’t pride themselves on taking the fight to our enemies. But then, “progressives” are more apt to see Hitler Bush as the enemy, than they are to admit that modern technology has made it possible for the raggedy Taliban of Afghanistan, or the wiry killers of Somalia, or the black-clad maniacs of Lebanon, to reach out and touch us in most unpleasant ways.
