They will say that a mechanism called the “greenhouse effect,” was postulated long ago (~1824 by Joseph Fourier) and gained adherents in the late 20th century. They will say that the theory was seemingly invalidated by the decrease in global temperatures from 1940-1975, but that the adherents patched this up by explaining the cooling with pollution, specifically sulfur, from industryThe unanswered question in the piece is, however ... what will they do with all the windmills?
They will say that the theory was challenged by the noted vast gap between the amount of CO2 produced by civilization and the substantially smaller increase in CO2 in the atmosphere, but that the theory was patched up by examining the increased CO2 uptake by the hydrosphere and the biosphere.

They will note that the theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) proceeded much like any scientific theory (cf. Thomas Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions) in that it was modified and patched up and adjusted to fit empirical challenges until it finally collapsed altogether under the weight of incontrovertible evidence. But, the scientific historians will have a new phenomenon to consider, and that is the social and political context of this particular scientific theory.
Update: Thematic Hiking Trails
I don't think I'll mind Eco-ruins.
It will be fun to point them out on hikes with kids and explain what it was
like back in the late 1900's. "The best part kids, is that they
thought they were smarter than everyone else. They would get so mad if
anyone said different. Look at their big schemes now. Every time
you pay the government, just remember that its to pay for these rusting
monuments."

They will leave the rusting hulks to the landowners or the taxpayers to remove. Unlike the petroleum industry which must, in the case of the mining operations in the oilsands, return it to its natural state, or like shut down processing operation, remove all contaminated soil then spend five years turning over and aerating the remaing soil.

Well. all politicians aspire to a legacy. Here in Morontario they will be monuments to Dalton McGuinty and his Liberal stooges.
What to do with the windmills?
I would be happy to personally stick them up the butts of David Suzuki, Andrew Weaver, Jean Chretien, Dolt McGuinty, Al Gore and a few others …. just for starters.
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/02/windmills-some-of-us-have-to-sacrifice.html Actually they will be torn down and sold to scrap. Which we will send to China. And then they will melt them down and use them.
That would be sublime!
And of course the Chinese will still be holding the debt.
